2024-09-15 “Maybe” by Emma

Today was nice for a lot of reasons.

First off, breakfast time with the boys was real nice. We laughed a lot and they seemed to go out of their way to show that they were grateful.

Then, Hannah come out to Brooklyn an’ we all were sitting ‘round watching a little of what was on the TV, but mostly talking. The camping trip came up.

Then Merritt said, “What should we do with the sleeping bags? They’re really in the way, and they weren’t that special. I was thinking of taking them to the church on the corner for their homeless ministry.”

We all agreed, and that’s what we did after lunch. Soon as we said bye to the man at the church, Hannah’s iPhone got an alert from her bank.

“Well…” Hannah shook her head. “I just got $100 from the Pay It Forward Society.”

We just couldn’t believe it. That was a little more than she paid for the sleeping bags to start with. I’d near about forgotten about that Pay It Froward Society and the Random Acts Institution, but I s’pose they hadn’t forgot about us.

Well, after we talked about all that for a while, it was time for dinner an’ I made up pork in a skillet, some vegetables out of a can, and we had a nice meal. Then, me and Hannah had a long walk by ourselves, mostly talking about Merritt and Devon. Mostly Devon, to say the truth.

“Emma,” Hannah said, “I know what you said yesterday about Merritt, but when I see you with Devon… You sure seem to get along well.”

I couldn’t disagree ‘bout that.

We talked ‘bout how him and me get along good and how we have fun.

“Sometimes,” she said, “you don’t see what you have because you’re looking off into the distance.”

Well, soon as Hannah said goodbye, I went to my ‘partment. Not no time passed when Devon sent me a Snap. He wrote a message after saying that he wanted to thank me about supper, and that he liked everything.

It was sweet, and sure as Hannah said it, that’s how Devon is about most things.

I might need to think more about all Hannah was saying.

Anyway, that’s all for today! Thanks for reading my story!
