2024-07-07 “Step By Step” by Merritt
I got up early and claimed the first shower. I ran into my dad and told him I’d not use too much hot water. He laughed and said it was a continuous heat hot water tank.
“Remember, it was your idea when the old one broke.”
“Oh, yeah,” I said. “I forgot about that.”
“Hey, I know you have some time before New York,” he said, “but you know me… I’ve started the ball rolling for you.”
I smiled. That meant he had found me a place to live and arranged pretty much everything. That was his way with things.
“That’s great.”
“Son,” he said, “I didn’t account for roommates…”
I looked down the hall toward my bedroom. “Yeah, well, it's all up in the air. We’ll figure it out while in Miami.”
“You won’t need a car in New York.” Dad was on to the next thing. “I booked you three on a flight to Miami. You can pick up a rental car there. And I’ll sell the Honda while you’re at the music festival, so you don’t have to worry about that.”
I was a little surprised. That was proactive, even for dad.
So, here I am in the shower. Dad has arranged everything. And I’m spending the next week in Miami with a couple of beautiful women listening to music and working on rundown houses.
I’m a little shell-shocked, to tell you the truth. I want to tell my folks what happened, but I just don’t know how they would respond. I guess this is just something Jenn, Emma, and I will have to sort out as we go.
Oh… I forgot to mention that Dad secured tickets to the MLB baseball game today for me and the ladies. It’s a big game for the home team.
I know this is going to take some explaining, but I guess it will be fun.
