2024-07-15 “Leaving Miami” by Emma
Me, Jenn, an’ Merritt went out to the Everglades today. Merritt posted a picture, so you pro’ly already saw it.
When we got back to the condo, I laid out this dressing gown to wear then got that bikini I wore the first days. Everything else, ‘cept my tooth-brushing and bathing things are packed away.
I tol’ Jenn and Merritt I didn’t know if I’d ever get back to Florida again, and was gonna go down to the beach one more time.
Jenn smiled. “We can come back from time to time.”
Merritt said, “There are beaches in New York, too. They aren’t the same as Florida, but we can go there when we want to.”
I made a picture of me back on the beach, and it’s posted with these two of me in my dressing gown that I made when I got back. ‘Course I showered off the sand and salt water.
I thought of something else about leaving 1880. I left on July 4th. Independence day. It’s sort o’ a coincidence that it was me breaking away from the will of my daddy to marry Shamus and the day the USA decided to break away from the will of England. That was nearly a hundred years before I was born, in 1776
I guess July 4th will have two meanings for me, now. B’sides the USA independence, it’ll also be the day of my independence.
Merritt says soon as we get to New York, we need to look into what happened to my folks. His and Jenn's sorta shifted forward with 'em, but for them, like nothing happened.
He says if I ran away from home in the shifted time, they probably are worried about me and such.
I s’pose he’s right about that. My drivers license has an address, an’ I bet we can find out what’s there with the Internet, like Ailana Geven showed us when we first got to Miami.
Well, I’m getting on an airplane tomorrow so I better get to bed now.
Thanks for reading this.
