2024-07-15 “Gator Boat” by Merritt
Jenn, Emma, and I are taking today, Monday, to just relax and prepare for our trip to New York. I guess we’re moving more than it being just a trip.
Whereas Miami is right beside Everglades National Park, I insisted we go have a visit. It was a great outing, getting us off the beach and into the wetlands. Jenn, being from Canada, had naturally never seen alligators. Emma, being from a sharecropping farm in the Mississippi delta also had never seen alligators. Or airboats. Or pretty much 75% of the things we take as common.
It was a great day, and I really feel like the three of us are getting closer, more comfortable with each other. And that is good, because we’ll be living together. I looked at the rental paperwork—which isn’t on paper, but is on the Internet, but the manager said to review the “paperwork” even though there’s actually no… paper—and the apartment is in the East Williamsburg area of Brooklyn. It's a newly renovated 1 bedroom walk-up, pretty small, and going for $2200 a month.
That seems like a fortune to me, but I guess it’s not much in 2024 for New York City. I found some pictures of the apartment, so they are in this post, too. I’m not sure if that’s the actual apartment or just an example of what ours will look like.
We’ll make it work out. Jenn has some ideas about work she can do, and Emma is open to anything.
I guess that’s sort of our motto… We’ll make it work out. Or as Emma says, we’ll “play along” like we understand until we do.
But, all that to say, we’re really getting close to each other and getting along really well. I never really was overly social, and had a lot of people I hung out with, but wasn’t too close. This is a great experience for me.
After the Everglades, we’re going to find someplace with local catch seafood. I hope that’s a thing around here somewhere.
Jenn and I have some packing to do. Emma is essentially packed; she has so little to start with. I plan on seeing to it that she has more than what she needs—I think that would be nice for her.
Well, that’s the plan! Thanks for following my crazy adventures!
