2024-11-11 (Monday) for Hannah (born 2000)
Hannah jolted into a sitting position and found her iPhone. She answered it to hear Kent’s voice.
“Hannah?”
“Yeah…”
“Kent… the one born in 1958… from 1880…”
Hannah was shocked, unable to fathom how he was calling.
Kent went on. “I shifted. I found Kent's phone and a paper about some work last Saturday. Volunteers… Your name was at the top.”
Hannah took a deep breath and tried to clear her confusion. “You shifted? So… So… Okay, this Kent went back.”
Kent answered with a question. “But with who? I was thinking… if it was Shay, then the 1880 Shay is over there in that house all alone…”
2024-11-11 (Monday) for Shay (born 1857)
Shay looked at herself in a full-length mirror. She had on a lovely silk top and matching… pants. She knew that women in 2024 wore pants, so she assumed it was some sort of outfit.
The doorbell rang a second time, so she hurried to answer it.
A black man wearing black shoes, black pants, and a black shirt stood on the stoop. He seemed concerned.
“Ma’am, I just got a call from Devon…”
Shay assumed it was by means of wireless, talking, telegraph devices of 2024.
“…we were wondering if you shifted time again.” The man began looking around in all directions and motioned Shay back inside. “Since you just came outside in your pajamas without a robe, I assume you did. I’m one of your bodyguards… Eric Marsten.”
“Pajamas?” Shay looked at herself as the man turned around. “By heaven, you mean this outfit is what a woman sleeps in?”
Eric nodded. “Sometimes. Nightgowns are a thing, too. Or just a t-shirt. Ma’am, I’ll wait here until you find a dress and then I’ll make sure you can operate the appliances and anything else you need. No rush…”
1880-11-11 (Thursday) for Emma (born 1965)
Emma hurried through the streets toward Shay’s house. Will had stopped at Merritt’s house with a telegram from Western Union—it was on the way to Shay’s house. Given Will’s age, Emma volunteered to run it over.
Shay and Kent had an assignment.
