Me an’ Merritt were in his kitchen getting some water an’ about to say goodnight, ‘cept it was 7a.m. We’d just finished watching movies for all night!
Devon came back in from the common room where we’d left Hannah and Kent. “How long they been like that?”
Merritt answered. “Since closing credits of the last movie. Hannah was in the middle of telling Kent he could take Lord of the Rings off his bucket list, and she just stopped in the middle of her thought. She looked at him and smiled, then took a big breath and laid over on the couch curled up.”
That’s exactly what happened. She balled up with her head one way and her feet by Kent’s legs. He reached over and patted her calf then scrunched down with his legs out in front of him.
“That,” Devon said, “is exactly how you two looked a couple Sunday’s ago.”
Merritt nodded. “If it’s the same thing, they can hear us and… well you know… interact a little. It’s was like being half here and half asleep…”
Then I said, “Like a bad dream where you can’t do what you want to do.”
Devon nodded. “Kent asked me if I’d leave the door open and keep an eye out so no one would have any reason to think they were… acting up. They just want to sit there.”
Merritt sighed. “Well, I’ll get up around noon or something and try to talk them into going to bed.”
I elbowed Merritt and added, “To different beds!”
Merritt nodded. “Yeah, that.”
Devon said he’d watch out for them. “Plus, Addison gave me a list of a few little things she wants me to do for her party tonight, so I’ll have something to do. If it is same as you, what do you think it is?”
Merritt shook his head and I answered. “Everybody more or less figures it has to do with shifting, right?”
Devon nodded.
“That’s about all we come up with,” I added.
Devon went back to the common room and I walked Merritt to the door of his bedroom and gave him a goodnight kiss, then went to my ‘partment to go to sleep.
