2024-11-01 “Progress Update” by Hannah (born 2002)

This assignment is almost as boring as this picture is. I’m in a small shop that makes custom plastic parts for all sorts of things—antique cars, promotional cups, brackets, phone cases… It’s actually a pretty interesting operation. Just not an interesting assignment.

They have added employees and the insurance company did a safety visit. They recommended (strongly urged) that all the automation wiring be changed to a plenum versions. I’m doing detailed drawings of the cable runs and the chases and… you get the idea. Fancy way of saying that I’m measuring stuff.

Today follows our Halloween celebration that began with a fun party Addison came up with last night and pumpkin spice pancakes she and Emma made for everyone this morning. Going from those things to this has been kind of lame.

However, it does show that I’ve made some progress at NYC SysCo. I’m getting more and more complex jobs assigned with less and less oversight. Not bad for a few months.

Merritt, likewise, is getting similar jobs. We both feel like we’ve got a handle on the “technician” role and are on track as expected.

At the same time, I’d say his and my relationship is on track, too. It’s nice. There’s no stress or pressure. Overall, it's very comfortable. I said before that the time shifting sort of set us back, and that we had to make up the same ground. As I think about it, I think there’s some value to that.

Let me elaborate. The little resets put us in a mindset to be sure about things we are doing and not to rush ahead just because it seems like moving ahead is expected. Certainly, the resets have slowed down our growth, but I think it’s like pruning off branches and letting the roots grow stronger.

We’re plenty young; there’s no need to rush.
