Last night the Hannah and Shay born on the 2024 timeline shifted back to 1880 where the Shay and Hannah that have been there came here. This is like talking in circles.
Shay (born 1857) is being looked after by the Emma (born 1861) who has been living in this timeline since July. The Hannah that has been living on the 1880 timeline (who was born in 1962 before she shifted back) had been checking on the other two, and came back to the common area of our apartments and joined me on one of the sofas.
“Emma is deep into an explanation of how things have changed over the last 144 years,” Hannah said as she sat down beside me.
“Emma’s been through a lot. She’s smart and catches on. Shay will be better off for listening.”
Hannah nodded. “Emma has her smiling. They were talking about jeans and tank tops.”
I nodded. “My brief time in 1880 taught me a lot. Tough time to live, by comparison.”
Hannah nodded her head and looked down. “I…”
I waited for her to finish the thought, but she changed direction. “What do you think the other Hannah and Shay are doing?”
I shook my head. “I have no idea. None of this makes sense. It’s like this agency with all the money and time travel ability is just making things up for kicks. It’s not logical in any sense of the word.”
Hannah nodded. “Do you wish it hadn’t happened?”
I looked around the apartments and thought the only bright spot was the friends I’d made, but still… “I kinda wish it hadn’t.”
Hannah smiled. “We’d be working together…”
I nodded, but didn’t say anything.
Hannah went on. “I wish I could stay here…”
“Because 1880 is so hard…”
“Yeah…” she nodded. “And…”
“What?”
She sighed. “It doesn’t matter. I’m just wishing… Wonder how long we’ll be shifted?”
I said we had no way of guessing. She agreed.
“Is it bad that I don’t want to go back?”
“I think it’s reasonable,” I said.
Then she leaned over against me. “Hold me like the other Merritt does when we get depressed.”
I put my arm around her shoulder. Like I do the other Hannah.
