The picture is from Monday when we were still at Cheesequake State Park. While we were on the way home, Devon said, “So, I guess I’m becoming a regular part of the story…”
He’s right. We felt like him having his own IG page would just make it harder on readers to follow everything, so we decided I’d post for him on my page.
In this post, I wanted to catch everyone up on who Devon is and explain a little how he ended up in his current situation.
Devon described life growing up as poor and hard. His real dad got his mom pregnant just before graduation. He stuck around a few years then took off. His mom worked around whatever childcare she could arrange until she married his stepdad when Devon was 10.
Most of the time the stepdad mostly ignored Devon unless he needed help holding a tool or something. He worked in retail at various grocery and discount stores.
Devon eventually earned a work study scholarship to a community college. When he went home at the end of the summer term in 2024, after finishing his Associate degree, luck dealt him a bad hand.
He was away at a friend’s house when fire consumed the house and took his mother’s life. Devon’s stepdad somehow decided it was Devon’s fault for “not checking the batteries in the smoke detector.”
Devon lost his mother his home, and almost everything he owned including his Social Security card. It was about a week later that he met Emma and Hannah.
Devon said that, pretty much, everything since then has already been told. Until today.
Addison called earlier to say that she had talked to Tom, and Devon could work at the theater for a week or so cleaning up behind the workers who were doing the renovations. Tom said he could pay him out of petty cash and get around the paperwork, which could be filled out whenever it comes in.
That seems like a pretty good opportunity.
