After Rebecca flint ended the call with Paul Charm, she couldn’t decide if she were more unsettled by the fact that, with no fuss at all, she had called a man in Paris from NYC or by his reaction to her call.
She told him she was off kilter by the fact he had gone off to Paris with the young sports and swimsuit model, Izzy Duffy. His explanation seemed reasonable, but the fact that he barely mentioned it to her before going had left her sore.
She had challenged his perspective. “Mr. Charm, looking at everything we’ve been through together these past few months… all we’ve done together… I’d rather assumed we were keeping company.”
“Keeping company?”
Rebecca had paused a little, then said, “I suppose I just took it for granted we were going out together.”
“Yes, well…” Paul had been jolted. “Rebecca… Honestly, I didn’t think you’d ever give me the time of day… Keeping company? I’d consider myself beyond lucky!”
“Paul Charm, we have a lot to talk about when you get back.”
Rebecca felt herself smiling. She turned off the light and settled down in bed, but figured it would be quite some time before her mind would stop racing enough for her to go to sleep.
