2025-03-19 “Wedding In Georgia” by Emma (born 1861)

I don’t know if e’erbody remembers, but back in Miami last summer, I met Ailana Geven. She’s real sweet, an’ I been followin’ her posts ever since.

So, later t’day, Sasha an’ Clay, and Geoni an’ Josh, are gettin’ married. It’s a  double weddin’ in Savannah.

Now, I met Sasha and Geoni, too, an’ thought I’d like to say congratulations, but I figured they’d be busy, so I called Ailana.

Emma Knox sits cross-legged on a patterned area rug in her unit at Tom Jenkins’s American Heritage Apartments, holding a phone in her hands. She wears a relaxed, off-the-shoulder blue sweater and white shorts, with soft gray socks covering her feet. Her light brown hair falls in gentle waves, framing her warm, friendly smile as she looks ahead. The cozy living space features a dark gray sofa adorned with blue and white pillows, a wooden dresser with a potted plant beside it, and a window letting in natural light. The atmosphere is inviting, with a blend of modern and vintage décor that reflects Emma’s personal style.

She answered on the second ring. “Hello?”

“Hey, Ailana! I don’t know if you ‘member me from back in Miami, but I been followin’ your IG posts ever since.”

She laughed a little. “Of course, I remember you, Emma! And I read all the Time Travelers stories. How are you?”

“I’m doing good! An’ I saw all ‘bout the double weddin’! Ain’t that somethin’?”

She said, “It really is. Sasha an’ Clay, Geoni an’ Josh—they’re all perfect together.”

Ailana Geven sits in a cream-colored armchair in her room at the SpringHill Suites Savannah Downtown/Historic District. She wears a plush white bathrobe, her blonde hair styled in loose waves. Holding a smartphone in one hand, she appears focused, with a relaxed but attentive expression. A small side table with a book and a window revealing a city view add to the cozy, modern ambiance of the hotel room.

I said, “Well, Merritt an’ me both wanna send ‘em congratulations.”

“Aww, that’s really sweet. We’re having a little girls’ brunch soon. I’ll tell them!”

I said thanks, then she said, “So, how’s everybody on your end?”

“Well,” I said, “honestly, we all ain’t sure what’s happenin’. Nothin’s come up for weeks, an’ we’re all wonderin’ what’s goin’ on.”

There was a pause. “Huh. That’s strange.”

“Tell me about it. We’re just sittin’ ‘round waitin’ for somethin’ to happen, but so far… nothin’.”

“That’s gotta be frustrating.”

“Yeah, after months of preparation and everything… Now, nothing for ages…”

There was a little pause, then she said, “Well, I’ll keep watching.”

“Thanks. Have a great day!”

“Will do… Bye, Emma. Thanks for calling.

I hung up an’ stared at my phone for a second. I don’t know why, but this whole thing’s got me feelin’ a little uneasy. Like somethin’ ought to be happenin’—but it ain’t.

Maybe I’m just overthinkin’ it.

Or maybe we’re all just waitin’ for somethin’ bigger than we know.
