Anika was working from “home,” sitting in the small gathering area that was part of the dorm section of Tom Jenkins’s American Heritage Apartments. By American standards, her living space was small: a minimally sized bedroom that shared a bathroom with another which shared a kitchenette and sitting area with a total of 8 dorms. However, Anika had visited family in various parts of India who would feel like she lived in palatial conditions.
Beside Anika on the sofa was a 41 year old journal that had totally shattered Anika’s understanding of the universe. It belonged to the version of Addison who lived in Sag Harbor in 2025. “She” didn’t buy it.
The journal had been purchased by—a different instance of her—in 1984. That instance of her—living concurrently in the past—was proceeding through time 40 years behind the Addison living in Sag Harbor.
Each day, back in 1985, the instance of Addison added notes to the journal .Each day in 2025, a page that had been blank previously was populated with the words written 40 years in the past. Among everyone involved, only a few explanations had arisen that were plausible.
Impossible to prove, it could be magic.
Also impossible to prove, Anika was dreaming, and none of it was really happening.
That there was some supernatural work at play was plausible. The highest power above all powers was actively at work. To what end, no one had a guess.
Lastly, the phenomenon could also be explained by rejecting everything science believed about time and existence. If the experience of the Time Travelers were true, there were three instances of them moving through nodes of time offset by some number of years.
Anika had worked from home so she could watch the journal all day. When letters began to appear on a page that had previously been blank, she was utterly stunned. So much so, she forgot to video the process.
But, there should be another entry in about 24 hours. She would be ready.
