Hannah was the first of the four to Translocate, which surprised her; she had not considered they would arrive at different times. She had left the dank, seemingly abandoned shed and trudged through a patch of tall weed until reaching its edge at a crude trail. She quickly spotted a castle in the distance.
Noise from the shed turned her attention that way to find Merritt and Kent coming out. Kent smiled at his wife, and the 3 of them met at the edge of the overgrown weeds.
“Remind me to sit on the floor next time,” Kent said.
Hannah nodded. “Yeah, me too. Appeared here in the same position as we left. 2 feet up in the air… Best we do away with the recliners.”
Merritt nodded. “This proves Paul Charm is new to this gig, too.”
Kent nodded just as an “oof” could be heard back in the shed.
Merritt looked back. “Emma’s here.”
A few seconds passed and she emerged from the shed shaking her head.
Merritt motioned to her. “You okay?”
Emma nodded and rubbed her backside. “So lots of green and yellow sparkles and here we are… 1777 England… Now what?”
“Rescue a princess, naturally…” Kent laughed and pointed at the castle. “Seen any dragons yet?”
Merritt laughed. “Actually, we’re to ‘save a princess’ which is subtly different.”
Kent nodded. “Subtle, but important point, though.”
Emma motioned across the manicured meadow behind Hannah. “So there must be a princess down there somewhere that needs to be saved…”
Evidence of a village could be seen looking to the left. Road from its direction ran toward the castle.
Kent looked at the path where Hannah had stopped. “If I were a Pinkerton Agent, I’d say this is a riding path for horses…”
Hannah looked down and laughed. “All those horse tracks give it away?”
Merritt pointed at the shed. “I guess that’s our exit… ‘somewhere no one will see you vanish…’”
“We can leave our… bindles there…” Emma added. “I say we have a look around and keep our ears open… Come back here and camp out inside the shed. Wilderness survival training, for the win!”
