2024-12-13 “Connections” for Eric (born 1994)

When David Ryder hired Eric Marsten to lead a security team for his daughter, Shay, who wanted to work for Humanity Housing in the NYC area he had no idea how… different the assignment would be.

On face value, guarding a woman as she goes around rundown neighborhoods and helps people in need is a huge step away from his duties with the Secret Service. Toss in the fact that she is one of eight people in a group that, from time to time, trade places with duplicates of themselves in 1880… Eric couldn’t think of words to explain it. There was another cohort of travelers who should have been living in 1984

He didn’t want to say he was friends with his protectee, but they were on familiar terms to be sure. He would say he was friends with some of her friends and one woman who volunteered for her from time to time.

It was friendship that led him to reach out to some old colleagues. The idea had actually risen from dinner with that volunteer woman, Tia Thomas.

A question the group hadn’t answered was whether or not all three groups of travelers were in the same universe. More than once, it had been mentioned that if they were, the group from 1984 could still be alive in 2024. They would be in their sixties, but definitely could be alive.

Eric and Tia thought it should be something a former Secret Service agent could find out. He asked Merritt what the Social Security Number was that he had when he was living in 1984 (In 2024, he had a different SSN).

Eric called a few friends. “I’m not asking for anything classified, of course. Just looking for some people.”

Eric sat in the Manhattan coffeeshop on his day off and smiled at what he had found. He immediately started making plans for a trip to Virginia Beach.
