Kent had a small repair job in the Bronx and when he finished it, he stopped by his house. Shay Ryder had been on his mind all morning.
More specifically, something she had said about recruiting volunteers and soliciting donations.
“Kent,” Shay had more than once said, “if you don’t ask, the answer is automatically no.”
Kent decided that if that was true about volunteers and soliciting, it was also true about everything else. Given all that had happened recently and with the holidays coming up, Kent figured it was a good time to ask.
