Devon reviewed the photos on his iPhone. He was at the warehouse where Hannah and Merritt had designed the cable chase. He was working solo, which he thought was pretty impressive since he was just an intern.
On the other hand, all he was doing was taking pictures of the existing electrical panels and all the breakers inside them. He figured anyone could do that if they knew what a breaker was, so it wasn’t that impressive. Still, Will trusted him to get the job done, and that was definitely something.
He was looking forward to January when he would start classes at New Jersey Institute of Technology. He had met with a counselor, and they had accepted enough of his credits that they figured he could finish in 4 semesters and 1 summer term. He thought that would be great, and was determined to make the most of the internship so that he’d be in a good place once he graduated.
As he was sending the pictures back to the office, a Snap popped up from Addison: “Who all is excited about tomorrow night? ME!!!”
Jacob, Shay, and Hannah replied back that they were also. Devon decided he’d add his reply to confirm he was, too.
After working with Habitat Housing in the morning, everyone would eventually converge at the apartments to hang out. Devon was glad. He had come to find he enjoyed Emma’s company more when they were with others. There wasn’t anything bad about being with her one-on-one, but things seemed more relaxed when they were in a group.
Devon figured it was because once they finished catching up on the day, things sort of stalled out. They had been taking their physical relationship slowly; Devon was pleased by that and it was fundamental to Emma’s way of thinking. So, when conversations stalled, he felt like he had to come up with things to do, like cuddle and watch TV or go for a walk.
Being with a group, though, opened things up. More people meant more things to talk about, and that ultimately made being with Emma more fun.
