2024-11-06 “Pushing Forward” by Hannah (born 2002)

Hannah looked up for the out-of-date blueprints and took a deep breath. She had been tasked with going through every number and line on the old blueprints annotating the scanned version anywhere she suspected something was wrong or had been changed. This was a new wrinkle in the pet store project, and she was not thrilled by it.

She did not consider herself a negative person, but she was having a tough time with feeling positive about… things. The last few weeks seemed to have bristled up against her and pushed her in the direction of pessimism.

When she stopped to analyze her feelings, the pet store kept appearing as a catalyst for the downswing in her mood. Battling insulation one trip… slipping on the ladder and tearing her blouse the day before. She was, figuratively, having pet store nightmares.

As far as she was concerned, the old blueprints should have just been thrown away after the basic dimensions of the building’s shell had been taken from them. Pretty much everything else had been changed over the years—it had started as a butcher shop half a century ago, then had become a deli, then a cafe, then had closed and reopened as a dress boutique which closed and reopened as a small grocery before becoming a pet shop a decade back.

The bright spot of the day had been a Snap from Shay asking what everyone was doing over the weekend and saying she’d like to be part of anything. Addison had Snapped back that they should do a pot-luck evening in the common area of the apartments and then find some old “B” movies to laugh at. The exchange that followed was very cheerful and steeped with enthusiasm.

Hannah thought it would be a good evening; a nice way to spend time with Merritt and her friends. That, she thought, was worth pushing through the next few days for.
