2024-11-01 “Pumpkin Spice Pancakes” by Emma (born 1861)

Me an’ Addison are makin’ her momma’s secret recipe for pumpkin spice pancakes. Everyone like us doing up breakfast an’ we all eat in the common room.

I got a lot to tell about our Halloween party, so I’ll go fast and not give much detail.

Ever’body was real excited ‘bout being a caveman, and there was so much laughing trying on costumes. Then we all went up to the common room where it was decorated.

Addison said, “Now everyone pretend you’re 10 and we’re gonna play some games.”

She showed some games with apples getting passed from chin to chin or getting eaten hanging from a string. Then, mostly everyone laughed and cheated and laughed some more.

Then we had some more snacks and I noticed Kent and Shay was a little off to the side and quiet. I figured it was on account the rest o’ us were paired up, but they weren’t, so I tol’ Devon we oughta make sure they were included.

Devon got right to it and the four of us had even more laughs.

Well, a while later, Addison had the idea to watch scary movies, so we all set down, but Shay didn’t seem to know where she should sit so she sat in the floor, but Devon wouldn’t have that. He talked her into sitting between him and Kent with me beside him. It was all real nice.

Now I got to thinking about how nice Devon is. He just knows how to put folk at ease, like Kent and Shay. An’ he has a lot of fun with it too!

Seems to me he had about as much fun with Kent as he did with me, last night. That’s how he is. He makes things fun and keeps up a good mood. Hannah tol’ me about them in the attic and him making jokes.

Now, I ain’t saying I’m jealous, just to get that out. I liked seeing ever’one have fun, and Devon come in 2nd behind Addison for making the party fun. I was glad to see it all, and it’s not like him and me are planning to marry right away anyway.
