Kent congratulated himself for finding a parking place on the same block as Tom’s theater. He headed to the apartment entrance seeing Jacob Brown already standing at the door.
Jacob waved. “What brings you by?”
Kent held up a box of donuts. “I actually have a job a couple blocks away. Designer light switches…”
Jacob nodded. “Addison is making breakfast for us.”
Jacob held the door and the two men went in and upstairs. They stopped in the small kitchenette area.
“You and Addison… that escalated fast.”
Jacob smiled. “We’re talking. You okay with it?”
Kent shrugged. “We had a nice dinner. Didn’t feel much chemistry… I’m not jealous, if you’re asking…”
Jacob shook his head. “I meant black man—white woman…”
Kent smiled. “Hey… you’re not in Vicksburg anymore. Sure… there will be some that judge with their eyes. Don’t go where you shouldn’t and nobody probably will say anything…”
Jacob nodded. “Hey… I thought a lot about your ideas from Hannah’s dream. Makes sense… 1880s people teaching 1984 people how to rough it. That really makes a lot of sense…”
Kent shrugged. “You know what no one’s talking about from the dream?”
Jacob waited and Kent went on. “The four of them taking a shower in the wilderness… undressed… just the pancho between them.”
Jacob smiled. “I thought about that. Kinda… well…”
Kent nodded. “And then, Emma called for that kiss… Sure, she used the poncho to cover herself. But, still… Emma and Merritt gotta be together…”
Jacob looked at Merritt’s apartment and laughed. “Yeah, nobody’s talking about that…”
