2024-10-05 “Sensible, More Or Less” by Hannah

Merritt got back to the office yesterday somewhat excited by a chance meeting he had with a woman named Shay Ryder. They had met in passing in Miami when he was there for the charity festival back in the summer.

He said that, after running into her, he had thought about his work in Miami helping out with some home remodeling for income limited families. He told Devon and me how satisfying the work had been. He went on to say that Shay had recruited him, and by proxy, Devon and me, to be part of a project today.

“I’m down,” Devon replied. “Habitat Housing put a new roof on my grandpa’s house. I’m happy to do some work every now and then. Sign me up.”

It really seemed like a good idea, and I could tell just how excited Merritt was to be part of the program. Plus, it fit right in with what we understood about the time traveler thing… doing good deeds. Emma had already gotten involved with a homeless program at the church that we gave the cheap sleeping bags to. This seemed like a good way for Merritt, Devon, and me to do something.

So that’s what we did today. Before we left, Merritt explained where we were to go, what we should wear, and everything we needed to know.

Yet… he completely failed to mention that Shay was beautiful. Hmmm…

Anyway, we did some good work, and the people were grateful. Still…
