What a morning! Merritt and I had a meeting in Brooklyn and it turned out to be a full-on breakfast meeting. We opted to skip lunch, but when it was time for us to catch the subway to that warehouse in Queens, we thought a quick cup of coffee and a pastry would be nice, so we stopped in at a Manhattan coffee shop.
The shop was crowded, but we got our coffee quickly and found a table. My iPhone was once more almost dead.
“Merritt, I gotta get a new wireless charger.”
“Dead?”
I nodded. There was a wall plug near the table beside ours where a pretty business woman sat. Having a charger and cable in my bag, I turned to her.
“Sorry to bother you. Can I plug my phone in?” I pointed to the wall.
“Sure… I’m basically done. Take my table.”
I scooted over and managed to get plugged in. “Thanks.”
“I saw you come in… I’m Vicki… Not to be nosey, but… I was debating… are you colleagues or… something more?”
I was delighted when Merritt quickly answered. “Definitely colleagues, and maybe something more… It’s a new thing for us.”
He was so cute how he said it, and she smiled. “Workplace romance… nice.”
She went on to tell us she worked in the bank building across the street. She does tech investments. We told her about our jobs and how we would become licensed engineers when we met the requirements.
“Look, I wasn’t being nice to pitch an idea to you, but…  We just launched a new investment product… for… young professionals like you. It is growth minded, but with some aggressive income potential as well.” She fished a business card out of her pocket. “Any account rep can do it… we have a branch across the street… but have them call me and I’ll get you set up…”
She smiled as she stood up. “You can do the math… start early… compound growth… all that.”
We thanked her and she headed out.
Merritt looked at me. “The new apartments will be ready this week… Devon has a job… sharing rent… we’ll have spare money…”
I nodded and added, “We should get Emma and Devon in on this…”
“It’s a solid plan. We should do it for sure.”
