2024-08-10 “Being A Model” by Emma

I got a lot to tell about today. Partly about modeling and partly about my thinking.

Natasha, who I tol’ you about yesterday as being friends with Aarvi, picked me and Merritt up to go to the park so as I could model sundresses. She come up in what she called an RV, but Merritt was used to calling it a camper or motorhome. Anyway, it had all her equipment and a whole closet full of clothes.

She said she was gonna get paid for the pictures and I’d get paid as the model. There was a contract and ever’thing.

We went to the park and got a place to park, then we started. First off, she set up her camera and it had a screen on it like my iPhone, only with a lot of numbers to do with taking a picture.

She wanted a test picture and Merritt pushed the button for this one of me and her together.

“Okay, that looks good,” Natasha said. “Go in the RV and put on whichever dress you want. We’ll do them all, so order doesn’t matter.”

That’s how it started off. Everything seemed really nice, but in my thinking I was still fussing with myself about tonight. I’ll say a little ‘bout that here, then get back to the picture taking story.

I still don’t know why I tol’ my boss, Addison, that I’d—to use her words—fix her up with Merritt. Like I tol’ in the story yesterday, I was a little caught surprised. I guess that and wanting to keep my boss happy put words in my mouth.

I’ve studied on what’s going on in my thinking, and now I think I have an idea. When I said to Merritt that I didn’t want to rush into something romantic, I guess I meant that I wanted to wait to get started but that I did want to get started sooner or later. I guess part of my mind knew that and part of it didn’t, so now I told him all that about cows and bulls forced into a pen, and I s’pose he thinks I’m against the whole idea.

And now that I’ve thought about it, I’m pretty sure I ain’t against it at all.

So, that’s what I was roll around my thoughts while I changed into that first dress. Now, I’ll get on with telling about the rest of the picture taking.

I guess the best thing that happened was that I come out of Natasha’s RV that she rented for the day, and Merritt turned to see me and his eyes almost bugged outta his head.

He smiled and said, “Wow, that’s beautiful on you.” It was the red one.

He took a step to me and helped me off the last step of the RV, but I really didn’t need help. All the same, I took hold of his hand and stepped out.

Then Natasha started tellin’ me were to stand an’ how to hol’ my head an’ where to look. She’s say to smile or not to smile. She was taking pictures all the while.

Finally she said, “Okay, that’s good. Pick a different dress and come on out.”

It went like that ‘til I’d put on all the dresses and she’d took pictures of ‘em. She said the pictures was for a catalog on the Internet, so the posses were s'posed to be similar.

Now, I wanna tell a little something you wouldn’t know from looking. I never did have on any shoes. Natasha said it was fine and that it would be easier on me putting on all the dresses. But you can’t even tell in any of the pictures, naturally, as they don’t show my feet.

I just wanted to say that, ‘cause I guess you can’t always tell everything from just a picture. I s’pose there’s always a lot to a story that ain’t visible in a picture, and that’ll pro’aly be on my mind for a while.

When we had finished all the dresses in that closet, Natasha said I could pick five to keep. I asked Merritt and took the five he liked best, but I like them all too. I guess only difference is I’d have took a black one instead of the pink. But I like the pink plenty.

Well, now that this is over, it’s time to go back to the apartments and I gotta make a dinner for Addison. And I reckon I need to tell Merritt how I’m feeling ‘bout all this.
