2024-08-04 “Making Waves” by Merritt

Emma and I are determined that we are not livestock in a pen waiting for the inevitable, despite what our fortune cookies said last night. But, to be honest, we have been thrust together and we do enjoy each other’s company. We talked about it again today, and stand by our decision to hold off pursuing a romantic relationship.

That said, Emma wanted me to make sure you can tell we are so close in the picture so that we’d both fit. There was another one we took that made it look like we were hugging, so we took this one.

And to the guys reading this who have told me I’m an idiot and I should go all-in to win Emma over… I appreciate your point of view. We’re just not ready for that.

We had our Sunday mornings, then decided to come to the pool. One of the reasons we aren’t ready to consider romance is that we need to focus on what to do about our bosses, who are asking questions about why we are so familiar with things of the past. That is what Emma and I discussed at the pool.

“If you think it through,” Emma said, “we can either try to keep hindin’ the truth or try to ‘xplain it.”

I agreed. It’s actually binary. Either hide it or admit it.

“An’” Emma went on, “to hide it means I gotta make up a lie about why I know what I know. They already know I ain’t… I haven’t been to college or anything. What could I say?”

For me, dancing around what I know and don’t know might be easier, but I keep getting a feeling from Will Robinson that his curiosity is very strong.

By the time we left the pool, we had decided that we needed to find a time and place to explain what happened. We couldn’t imagine what that would be like nor guess the consequences.

Emma suggested she could have Addison come to the apartments and we could tell her together. I thought that was a good idea. For me, I thought I’d just be ready to tell Will what happened if I felt like I needed to or if a good opportunity came along.

We’re about done here at the pool. I guess we’ll head back to the apartments, clean up, and start planning dinner.

Thanks for reading our story.
