2024-07-09 “People In Need” by Emma
I was thinking on the airplane that any house that’d need fixing up would be better ‘an what I lived in. Yes an’ no both, to say the truth…
Let me start over. I stayed up late on my iPhone using the English app @ailana.geven Ailana Geven showed me. And I found a book for free called “How to Speak Hillbilly” So, I’m reading it backwards. I find things I say and then go the other way with it.
Like it said, “Don’t say ‘I suppose.’ Say, ‘I reckon.’”
Well, I’m going to go the other way… I suppose.
So, this house is in bad shape. Mine in 1880 was bad, but in a different way. Mine was lacking. This one is run down.
The woman what that… I mean The woman that owns it is a grandma living on government support. But she keeps the kids from her daughter and two of the neighbors so them folk… I mean those people can go to work. It’s people trying hard, here. They’s not just begging for money.
This program… It’s gonna fix up this house nice. They pulled in a big camper for the grandma to live in while we get it tore out and rebuilt. An’ she’s still keeping the kids, but over at another house, so ever’ body… I mean everyone… can keep up their jobs.
I’m not sure what I’m doing. Merritt said somebody put this stuff called styrofoam on the walls, but it don’t belong here, so I’m scraping it off. He said not to breathe in the little bubbles what come off when I scrape and not to eat it.
I just rolled my eyes, ‘cause I wouldn’t eat it in the first place.
Jenn is real busy… I guess I should say really busy. She’s doing this an’ that all over the area. That women, Ailana and her friend, Sasha, are coming ‘round now an’ then and carrying off all the mess I’m making.
I guess that’s all I can tell you. It’s nice to be doing something that helps somebody, but I got to see the ocean, and I’m looking forward to playing in it soon.
Thanks for reading all this.
