2024-07-12 “Awaiting The Big Events” by Merritt
Jenn, Emma and I have been staying busy with the Humanitarian Housing benefit. You may have seen the posts. It’s been fun, and the big events are just about to start.
Things here at the beach are already pretty exciting! I ran into @ailana.geven Ailana Geven who sort of got involved with James King @king_james_ai a while back and was part of getting this thing rolling. If I look grumpy in the picture, maybe I was thinking how dumb it was to wear a shirt; when I take it off, I have to do something with it.
Emma will probably offer to stash it in her backpack for me. She has good common sense about things and comes prepared.
I got an email—and yes, I’ve learned who that whole thing works!—from the company in NYC about my job. It’s a firm called NYC SysCo, short for systems contractors, which stems from their roots putting in massive building HVAC controls back in the steam boiler days. Now, they do everything from site planning to full building design.
I’ll be starting in the small job division. My job will be okay, despite my 40 year gap. I’ll be doing what they call “client-side data collection” which means I’ll go out and talk to customers about their needs. This is good. Feet and meters haven’t changed and I can count. So if they want a room that will hold 50 people, I can help them sketch it out. I can estimate loads at various points on the surface… And… I’ll just leave the rest for another time, maybe.
Point is, I won’t be a total carp out of water flopping on the bank!
Okay… New topic… Emma has agreed to let me take her to a swimsuit shop that is just off the beach. She’s hesitant to let me and Jenn spend money on her, but all she had in her wallet was a couple of $25 VISA gift cards that looked like they had been birthday presents. I take it to be how the time shift translated whatever she had in what she calls her change purse.
So, before we get salty in the ocean, that’s going to happen next.
All of this is still crazy, but I’m pushing on.
