2024-07-13 “A Little Worked Up” by Emma
A LITTLE WORKED UP—Well, so far, I ain’t cried, but I thought I was about to get teary.
Here in Miami Beach, me, Jenn, an’ Merritt are sharing this condo overlooking the beach. It’s got two bedrooms, an’ me an’ Jenn are sharing one and Merritt’s in the other, so that how it is.
Now, when Jenn took me to get that first bikini, she also talked me into gettin’ this nightgown, ‘cept I haven’t worn it ‘til tonight. So, I got all the sand and ocean water warshed off in the shower, and thought I’d try this for tonight.
Jenn was out in the sitting part of the condo, an’ she had on a robe, all pulled around, but she was necked underneath. Our bedroom door was open, so I could see her sitting there. I got a mind to get some water from the little kitchen, so I went on out.
Just then, Merrett come out of the bathroom. He had on what they call boxer briefs, an’ they was something new for him, just to say it. They might as well be swimming trunks, by the look of ‘em, if you ask me.
So, there I was in this nightgown and he looked at me and smiled. “Is that new?”
I was embarrassed and choked on my words, so Jenn answered. “We bought it when we went shopping.”
“It’s nice,” Merritt said. “Doesn’t look like something that time-shifted from a sharecropper’s satchel.”
Then he waved and went to his room. I forgot about the water and came back in here.
Now, I know I pranced around for two days all-but-necked in my bikini, an’ this covers me a lot more, but bikinis are meant to be seen by ever’body. Nightie ain’t. An’ somehow that worked me up.
Partly, I was glad he liked how it looked. Partly I was embarrassed to be seen like this.
And now, I’m thinking how it will be sharing a place in New York, ‘cause he won’t even have a bedroom o’ his own.
But, I guess it’s just one more thing to adjust to, so…
So, I”ll just keep trying to adjust and maybe it’ll come easier in time.
